18 August 2014

I initially booked this hotel because it offered good value for what I thought would offer a good level of comfort and service. I opted for the upgrade to a suite as we had two children with us and the extra room is always a bonus.
We found the hotel with little difficulty and drove straight into the onsite car park which was £15 for a 24 hour stay. We got to the hotel early so we could leave the car. The hotel staff were fine with this and booked a taxi to take us to the Royal Armoury.
Even at this point the service was excellent. Our initial contact was with Hannah who made us feel very welcome and ordered the taxi for us.
After a day at the Royal Armoury we got back to the hotel to find that our room was not quite ready so we sat and waited in the mezzanie. It was at this point that the lovely Emma told us we would be able to use the pool while we were there and she took us round to have a look. As our room wasn't ready we decided to go back into town and buy swimming costumes. Again, Emma was very helpful giving us directions to certain shops where we might find a swimming costume at this time of year.
We finally got into our room around three and have to say it was worth the extra wait. A large sitting room with dining table and chairs, sofa and TV. The sofa had already been made into a bed for our children. A sliding door separated the sitting room from the bedroom which had two single beds pushed together to make a huge bed, larger than a king size. There was also a TV. Tea and coffee making facilities were available with a full size kettle. If I had one criticism about the room I would say that the tea, coffee and milk available could be more varied for this standard of room. There was only the basics available and I would have expected a few more varieties of tea and more milk - perhaps fresh. There were also mints and biscuits in the room which the children devoured. Best of all there were two bottles of wine for us to enjoy - compliments of the hotel - and two bottles of water.
The bathroom was large with an overhead shower. The toiletries were great and had a fantastic scent. There were plenty of towels available, a hairdryer and an iron and ironing board.
After exploring the room we all went for a swim. The pool itself was on the cool side but the warm bubbly jacuzzi made up for that. My husband also used the steam room and sauna. The children had a great time and were safe as the pool was roped off from the deeper end (which wasn't that deep). There was only one other family in the pool while we were there so it was great!
After a good swim and shower we went out for supper at Cielo Blanco in the city - can't rate it highly enough.
My husband and children went swimming again the following morning while I enjoyed the peace and read the complimentary newspaper.
Breakfast has to be one of the best experiences I have ever had in a hotel. The staff were very attentive and actually interested in making your breakfast an enjoyable experience. Tea and coffee was great and there was a huge choice of breakfast items available. Full English breakfast (with your eggs cooked to order!), three types of bread, croissants, pastries, fruit, cereal, juice, continental meats, museli, yogurt and a good choice of preserves in mini jars as well as a menu of special order items like kippers and eggs Benedict.
What has made this hotel stand out for us wasn't the facilities (though excellent) it was the staff. Thanks to the delightful Hannah, Emma and the staff at breakfast, our stay was made exceptional and we all came away saying that we would be back - something we do not usually do as we have been so disappointed on so many occasions when we have stayed in various hotels.
The difference with this hotel is that the staff really do care and are genuinely interested in you and your stay - not an easy thing to do for every guest.
We cannot wait to return to the Crowne Plaza Leeds.
